Rechmaya

Rechmaya is an Aramaic–Syriac name composed of two words: “Rish – Mayya (or Mayo)”, meaning “Head of the Water.”
It was given this name because of the abundance of its water resources and the large number of natural springs found in the area.

Rechmaya is located 32 kilometers from Beirut and lies at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level.

The writer William Khazen, a native of the village, referred to Rechmaya as “God’s Village” because of the many churches, monasteries, priests, monks, and nuns found there.
